Becoming A Foster Care Parent
Application/Approval process
The foster care process begins with an orientation. The orientation is designed to give the family information about the process of foster care and/or the foster to adopt process and answer any questions the family has about the requirements, process and types of children available for adoption.
If after the orientation the family decides to proceed, they will need to submit their application and other supporting documents to our agency. The family is required to attend pre-service training called PRIDE that is offered through the agency. PRIDE is the pre-service training that is required by the State prior to approving a family for foster care.Families will be required to submit to a criminal check through DPS, child abuse and neglect information through Central Registry and an FBI finger print check. No felony convictions are allowed. Other criminal history will be decided on a case by case basis. Once the family has successfully completed PRIDE training, they will have a home study completed. After the home study is completed and approved, child placement staff can begin the matching process to find foster children that will function well in the foster home. Types of Children
We work with children in State custody who are survivors of child abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. We work with all 50 States to place children in loving, permanent homes.
After Placement
Following placement, the family will have a case worker visit their home, a therapist if needed and ongoing training support. The family will be responsible for transporting the child(ren) to and from any appointments, family visits, and school.Ongoing Requirements
Foster parents are required to participate in annual ongoing training. The number of hours will depend on the level of service your child requires.
Reimbursement
Foster parents will be reimbursed a daily rate. They will be reimbursed by the Agency on a monthly basis.
